Zerene Stacker is “focus stacking” software designed specifically for challenging macro subjects and discerning photographers. Of course it works great with simpler subjects, close-ups, and landscapes also! Here is a preview of our current flyer. You can download a high quality version as PDF. Hugin is a free panorama stitcher that also includes Focus Stacking - it runs on. For that, you will need a separate tool, such as alignimagestack, which is.

Windows has CombineZM, which is free focus stacking software, but the two solutions I found out there for the Mac are not free, and I don't wanna pay for software that I won't use that often yet.
Soooooooooo, I was wondering if anybody knew if there was a way to do focus stacking on Mac OS X, any free software that I don't know about? Or even better, does anybody know how to do it in photoshop (I have CS3)?

Don't know how well it works though. Easy high-q recorder crack youtube. I'll have to try it later. The Photoshop question is still out there though!

Dont know about any software for the Mac, but it can be done manually in CS3 using the healing brush tool.
I havent done it many times so i probbaly wouldnt explain it very well. Basically you open up all the images from the stack, select one and using the healing brush tool, clone the in focus parts from the other images in the stack onto the one you selected.
LordV will probably be able to explain it better.

Ah that makes sense, but sounds tedious. Yes, I am hoping LordV sees this thread!

Think you've got the only free solutions I know of. Think that link is a plugin for ImageJ ?
I know some people do stacks using layers in PS but I find it easier just to use the healing brush tool.

I use Combinez5 on my mac. Its pretty cool.

so you must be running Windows on your Mac? I presume that means more risk from virus attacks.

Thats because even the lamest script kiddie wouldn't waste their time writing a virus for a computer operating system with at best 15% market share. And that is 4x what it was before people were able to do precisely what Fernando is doing.
IMHO of course

I use Macs too although I have an old Compaq downstairs .
Keith's Image stacker (only mac) only uses FITS format images. I have tried it and it is pretty complex so much so I have not figured out how to use it . Like many authors , they don't know how to explain the stuff in simple language ( and there is a tutorial but it does not help).
Same with NIH, imageJ .
I have done some RGB work with photoshop and at least I have gotten some results although not as good as I have wanted.
