Hitting the British radio airwaves in time for summer 1973, Kevin Ayers' 'Caribbean Moon' is one of those songs which, in an even halfway-perfect world, should have dominated the charts all season. A joyous mock-calypso, alive with whistles, yelps and the sound of rolling surf, and packed with every imaginable reference to the contents of the alternative tourist guide, the song screams 'summer vacation' from every groove, and it races past just as quickly. But it flopped and the sun didn't shine half as brightly as it could have.
